Jae-Sang Hyun (Ph.D. 2020)

Jae-Sang received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Yonsei University in 2015. He joined the XYZT-Lab team in 2015 with experience in robotics, optics, and computer vision systems. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. focusing his research on the challenges of enhanced simultaneous accuracy and fast-speed of 3D shape measurements and geometric reconstruction. Jae-Sang spends his leisure time playing basketball and he pursues his hobby of photography whenever he can.

Xiaowei Hu (Visiting Ph.D. student)

Xiaowei is a visiting scholar in mechanical engineering. He received his B.S. in Control Science and Engineering from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in 2015, and he is currently pursuing his doctorate in the Department of Electronic Engineering, Tsinghua University. His research interests include 3D imaging, computational photography and computer vision. He loves sports and photography, especially road cycling, and occasionally participates in amateur cycling races.

Michael Feller (M.S. 2019)

Michael is a senior in Mechanical Engineering who is currently enrolled in a combined B.S./M.S. program. He joined the lab in 2018 to research in his interest areas including optics, robotics, and controls. Outside the lab, he enjoys playing basketball, watching sports, and spending time with friends from his church.

Brian is a Junior in Mechanical Engineering who joined the lab in Fall 2018. His research interests include 3D imaging, robotics, controls, and autonomous vehicles. When he’s not at school, Brian enjoys mountain biking, skiing, and hiking.

Jerry is a senior in Mechanical Engineering that joined the lab in Spring 2019. His research interest is 3D imaging, robotics, and controls. During his free time, he likes to go hiking and play badminton.

Professor Andres G. Marrugo (Visiting scholar)

Andres Marrugo is a Fulbright visiting scholar in mechanical engineering. Dr. Marrugo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar, Colombia, where he did his B.Eng. in Mechatronics Engineering. He received his Ph.D. in Optical Engineering and his M.Sc. in Photonics from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Spain. His research interests are optical metrology, computer vision, 3D imaging, and image processing for biomedical applications. He received the SPIE DCS Rising Researcher Award.

Professor Lenny A. Romero (Visiting scholar)

Lenny Romero is a visiting scholar at XYZT Lab. Dr. Romero is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Basic Sciences at the Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar, Colombia. She received her B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Physics from the Universidad Industrial de Santander, Colombia, and the Ph.D. in Optical Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Spain. Her research interests are optical metrology, visual optics, and 3D imaging for biomedical applications.

George Gayton (visiting scholar)

George is a visiting scholar from Nottingham University, UK, where he completed his Masters in physics. George is at XYZT labs to gain experience in designing fringe projection systems, and his interests include modelling (the mathematical kind) and ultimate frisbee.

Professor Min Zhong

Min Zhong is a visiting scholar in mechanical engineering. She received her master's and doctor's degrees from Sichuan university in 2015, and she is now an associate professor in Chendu University of Information Technology. Her research interests are optical three-dimensional surface shape measurement based on trigonometric measurement principle and that based on vertical measurement principle.

Garrett Fehrman is a senior in Mechanical Engineering. He joined the XYZT Lab to gain experience with autonomous vehicles and 3D imaging and has also worked with the HIRRT Research lab at Purdue. Neha Pal

Neha is a Sophomore in Honors College and is pursuing her BS in Mechanical Engineering. She joined XYZT Lab in Summer 2021 to work on 3D printer with 3D vision sensor project. She wants to explore 3D printing, machine design and AI. In her free time, she enjoys drawing, playing tennis and calligraphy.

James Baxter

James is a junior in Mechanical Engineering from Pittsburgh, PA. He joined the XYZT Lab in the Spring of 2021 looking to gain experience in perception, path planning, and control for robotics. He has previously performed researched with the AIMS Lab at Purdue and is currently President of the Autonomous Robotics Club. In his free time, James enjoys learning woodworking, flying RC aircraft, and spending time with friends.

Keenan Fitzharris

Keenan is studying mechanical engineering with plans to continue to graduate school. He has participated in several different research projects as an undergraduate and holds positions in the Student Government and as an M.E. Ambassador. At XYZT Labs he is gaining experience in robot motion planning and hopes to apply this to autonomous vehicles, robotics, or virtual reality..

Grace Szymanski

Grace Szymanski is a junior in Mechanical Engineering. She joined XYZT Lab in Spring 2021 to gain experience with autonomous systems. Her interests are robotics, mechatronics, controls & automation, and autonomous systems. In her free time, she enjoys playing basketball, listening to music, and hanging out with friends

Grace Fowler

Grace Fowler is a sophomore in mechanical engineering. She joined the XYZT Lab in Summer 2021 as an undergraduate researcher on 3D printers. Her interests include design and coding and plans to study the intersection of these. In her free time she likes to go hiking, draw, or play board games.

Matthew Li

Matthew is a junior in Computer Engineering from Pittsburgh, PA. He is currently interested in image analysis and computer vision. He joined the lab to learn more about 3D cameras and image processing. In his free time, he enjoys playing tennis and going on runs.
